With the investigation in the murder case of Sheena Bora ongoing, prime accused Indrani and Peter Mukerjea will be appearing before the family court on September 18 to end their 16-year marriage. Indrani has given a two-page letter before the which lists the terms of consent from Peter to dissolve the marriage.

Indrani has asked for several items from Peter as part of the divorce settlement.

In a letter written by Indrani from the Byculla Jail, she demanded candles, bedside lamps, furniture, soft furnishings, jewellery, religious objects, artworks and keys to a safe. Indrani wrote this letter from Byculla women’s prison to Peter in Arthur Road jail on August 13, 2018.

According to Peter's lawyer Edith Day, Indrani in her letter said, “any other items i.e. the items that are in the list in the divorce petition that I have not put in this list as yet, she may “request” at a later date". The letter ends with, “Please shift your belongings from Flat no.19 of Marlow Building to Flat no. 18 except the items that I had marked in the photographs of Flat no. 19 that I had handed over to you.”

Earlier, a CBI court in Mumbai had rejected Indrani’s bail application. Mukerjea had applied for bail in August, citing ill-health and a "threat" to her life in the prison. The court, however, rejected her plea, saying she would be much safer inside the jail than outside. Special CBI Judge JC Jagdale also noted that her claims of ill-health were exaggerated. The court took note of the Central Bureau of Investigation's submission that Mukerjea has been kept in a secure cell and the prison premises are guarded round-the-clock.

A special CBI court last week, directed authorities at Byculla and Arthur Road jails to present Indrani and Peter before a family court on Tuesday. Since the couple is in judicial custody, permission is needed for them to be taken out of jail, which was granted by special judge JC Jagdale. Jagdale said it was necessary for the interest of justice.
