Textiles Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday launched a scathing attack in Lok Sabha on Congress leer Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of spreing lies and saying he may t accept budget, but people will.

Making an intervention in general discussion on Union Budget in Lok Sabha, Irani said that she did t expect Gandhi to support a budget which intended to promote government's Atmanirbhar Bharat' drive and unite country.

Earlier in day, Gandhi h alleged that three new farm laws would dam country's food security system as also "break spine of farmers" and said that country was being run by only four people with a 'Hum do, Hamare do' approach.

In a dramatic move, Gandhi also led his party members and those from TMC and DMK to observe a two-minute silence by standing to mourn death of farmers during ongoing agitation against laws.

Claiming that "200 farmers" have died during protests, he said he was doing this as government has t paid tributes to m.

BJP fielded Irani, who h defeated Gandhi in Amethi during Lok Sabha elections, to respond to Congress leer.

Without naming Gandhi, Irani wondered how could someone construct a building on edifice of lies and walk away after showing his back.

He may t accept budget, but people will accept budget which is a budget to unite people and t to break nation, Irani said amid thumping of desks by BJP members.

She accused Congress of spreing lies about MSP, which government has repeatedly said would continue.

Irani wanted to kw what Congress governments did to mitigate hardships of farmers, especially farmers of Amethi, tritional parliamentary constituency of Gandhis.

If someone has done something for people of Amethi, may it be constructing toilets, building ros or or public facilities, it was (Prime Minister) Narendra Damodardas Modi , she said and emphasised it repeatedly during her speech.

minister said that it was Modi government which gave free ration to 80 crore people during lockdown period. Of se 3.18 lakh people of Amethi got free ration, she ded.

Irani said that Amethi lacked basic facilities like good hospitals, ros and official buildings, and Congress government did thing for years. Many of se projects have been undertaken by Modi government, she said.

On accusation of Congress that farmers will lose ir land because of three farm laws, she said that it was a Congress-backed trust which took away land belonging to farmers in Amethi.

Speaking during discussion, RLP member Hanuman Beniwal urged government to withdraw three farm laws and provide legal guarantee to minimum support price (MSP).

Farmers have a lot of hope from Modi government and it should respond positively to demands of farmers who are agitating on borders of Delhi, he ded.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at Delhi's borders with Haryana and Uttar Presh demanding rollback of Farmers' Produce Tre and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that se laws would pave way for dismantling of minimum support price system, leaving m at "mercy" of big corporations.

However, government has maintained that new laws will bring farmers better opportunities and usher in new techlogies in agriculture.
