ISRO wins again: PSLV-C45 successfully injects EMISAT and 28 other satellites into orbit around the Earth

EMISAT, the country's newest satellite, was launched by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) from a launch station at Sriharikota on Monday, April 1.

Aiming at electromagnetic measurement, the satellite intends to provide electronic intelligence to the Armed Forces.

Taking it to Twitter, IRSO posted a tweet informing about the launch of the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV),  from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), a rocket launch centre operated by ISRO. The rocket launched the EMISAT and 28 other customer satellites.

Beginning the countdown for the launch at 6.27 AM, the four-stage PSLV-C45 blasted off from the second launch pad at the spaceport of Sriharikota at 9.27 AM, placing the satellites and payloads in three different roles, the agency officials reported to PTI.

The agency officials further provided brief details of the functioning of the mission, explaining that after injecting the 436 kg primary satellite EMISAT, intended for electromagnetic spectrum measurement, at around 17 minutes from lift off in a 749 km orbit, they would restart the fourth stage again.

During this initiative, all the other 28 customer satellites, totally weighing about 220 kgs, would be released by lowering the fourth state to around 504 km orbit.

Again, the fourth stage would be reignited and further lowered to 485 km orbit to serve as an orbital platform for carrying out spaceborne experimentations for the first time in ISRO's history.

The mission will be marking several firsts to the credit of the space agency as it would manoeuvre satellites in multiple orbits and orbital experiments along with including maritime satellite applications.

The officials reported to PTI that out of the 28 international satellites, 24 of them were from the United States, 2 from Lithuania and 1 each from Spain and Switzerland respectively.

Further adding details they said that these were twenty-five 3U types, two 6U types, and one 2U type nanosatellites.

ISRO also informed that all these satellites were being launched under commercial arrangemets.
