New Delhi: Made Leader of the Opposition to serve as the voice of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was caught egging on MPs to disrupt the Parliament proceedings during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech.

The Congress leader instructed the Opposition MPs to troop towards the Well of the House to stage a protest and asked them to increase their decibel levels to disrupt house proceedings during PM Modi's reply.

The Prime Minister addressed the debate on the Motion of Thanks on the President's address on Tuesday, making notable remarks on his third term and the recent Lok Sabha election result.

The session witnessed a massive ruckus amid sloganeering and protests by Congress-led Opposition MPs, with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reprimanding them for disrupting the Prime Minister's address.

PM Offers Water to Oppn MP

In a heart-warming gesture, PM Modi was seen offering a glass of water to the Opposition’s MPs, who were shouting slogans in the Well of the House against the government for interrupting his speech.

The lawmaker even accepted the glass of water offered by PM Modi.

PM Modi's nearly 135-minute speech witnessed continuous slogan-shouting on the Manipur and NEET issue. The opposition MPs demanded a debate on the issues of NEET aspirants.

BJP Schools ‘Lawbreaker’ Rahul

Taking a swipe at the Congress leader, BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla said that MPs are elected to be lawmakers and not lawbreakers.

Speaking exclusively to Republic, the BJP leader said, “We have seen two contrasting pictures. One shows LoP Rahul Gandhi himself encouraging MPs to break rules and jump in the well to disturb the PM's speech. The second shows PM Modi offering water even to a protesting MP who is heckling him. Who is the dictator? Does Rahul even deserve to be LoP?"

Another BJP leader, Nalin Kohli said, “We need to understand that this has become the norm since 2014. When PM Modi speaks, the opposition raises slogans to disrupt proceedings. Despite the Prime Minister listening patiently to the speech of the LoP, the opposition tried to disrupt his speech. It means that Opposition parties are here to make noise and not listen to what the ruling party has to say.”

The Prime Minister will reply to the Motion of Thanks on the President's address in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday around noon. Like his speech in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi is expected to be at his combative best during his address in the Rajya Sabha and take on an aggressive opposition.
