The Supreme Court on Monday declined to give an urgent date of hearing for the Ayodhya dispute case. A three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph ordered the case to be listed in the first week of January before an appropriate bench for fixing a date of hearing.

The bench, which was hearing a batch of petitions challenging the 2010 verdict in the case by the Allahabad High Court, turned down the Centre's request for the case to be heard in the week after Diwali, offering that the apex court has other priorities as well.

Here are 10 developments:

1. Following the Supreme Court's decision, Uttar Pradesh deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said: This is the decision of the Supreme Court thus I don't want to comment much. But this is not a good sign. When this matter was given for a day-to-day hearing, they should have done it.

2. Nimrohi Akhada, one of the recipients of a third of he disputed land as per the Allahabad High Court's order, issued a statement via its spokesperson Prabhat Singh, who hit out at the BJP: 'The BJP will again go with Ram Mandir plank in the 2019 elections. Let Mohan Bhagwat and VHP bing in a law to construct Ram Mandir as they promised. This is just politics to the BJP. Be it BJP or Congress, they're all busy in politics.'

3. RSS leader Arun Kumar said: "Place should be given to build the Mandir. The government should bring an ordinance on this if there's a delay from the Judiciary's side. RSS is with the saints. Waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court is now not the way for Ram Janmabhoomi. During the Winter Session of Parliament we urge the government to introduce an Ordinance."

The RSS will be holding a meeting in Mumbai starting October 30 and lasting till November 2, which will be attended by Mohan Bhagwat and all other senior leaders, with the Ram Mandir being added to the agenda.

4. Representatives of Hindu organisations have called for a meeting on November 3 and 4 at the Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi. Representatives of more than 125 Hindu organisations are scheduled to be present with the main topic of the meeting being the Ram Mandir.

5. Zafaryab Jilani of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) said: It is very clear that this is a court order till January. They should know they can't threaten or say something to the court. Only BJP will try to gain profit from this.

6. Congress leader Anand Sharma said: We are a democratic country. There should be no politics. Whatever verdict the court gives we should accept it. It should be received and accepted with respect, that's what the Congress stands for. People should abide by the Constitution and not say things that hurt sentiments.

7. The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) issued a statement via its working president Alok Kumar, who said: "Honourable SC has once again adjourned the hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi appeals to the year 2019. This fortifies the VHP's stance that the solution to the Ram Janmabhoomi issue is not in eternally waiting for the hearing of the appeals pending now for almost 7 years. The VHP reiterates its request to the union government to now enact a law to clear the way for a grand temple of Shri Ram at Ayodhya. This may be done at the coming Winter Session of Parliament. The VHP shall intensify its campaign to achieve this objective"

8. BJP MP Dr Subramanian Swamy has said that he will take up the Ayodhya case in Parliament, and that an ordinance should be brought about.

9. Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas leader Ram Vilas Vedanti said: They are doing this on purpose. The Congress is doing this through Kapil Sibal (reference to Sibal seeking postponement of Ayodhya hearing till after 2019 elections). This (resolution) can never happen within the court.

10. AIMIM supremo Asaduddin Owaisi said: The Supreme Court bench has said that a new bench will decide in January. It is a court matter and thus we have to follow. This is a title suit and the court has been saying this.

When asked about the government bringing an ordinance in the matter, Owaisi said: They keep saying they want to bring an ordinance. Let them bring it first.
