It's time we recognise PM Modi's work, says Jairam Ramesh warning Oppn

PM Modi's governance model is t a "complete negative story" and t recognizing his work and demonizing him all time is t going to help, said Congress leer Jairam Ramesh. It is time we recognize PM Modi's work and what he did between 2014 and 2019 due to which he was voted back to power by over "30 per cent of electorate", said Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday.
PM Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) got 37.4 per cent of votes in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. NDA, as a whole, secured nearly 45 per cent of votes. Congress leer Jairam Ramesh me remarks while launching a book, "Malevolent Republic: A Short History of New India" written by Kapil Satish Komireddi, a political analyst.

"He (PM Modi) talks in a langu that connects him with people. Unless we recognize that he is doing things which people recognise and which have t been done in past, we are t going to be able to confront this guy," said Congress leer.
"Also, if you are going to demonize him all time, you are t going to be able to confront PM Modi," warned former Union minister, who held portfolios of Rural Development, and Drinking Water and Sanitation ministries in Manmohan Singh government.

Jairam Ramesh sought to clarify that he is t asking anyone to praise or applaud PM Modi, but only wants political class to at least recognise traits he has brought to governance -- particularly "ecomics of governance".

"Let me tell you it is t a completely negative story when it comes to ecomics of governance, politics of governance is completely different," said ted ecomist, ding " social relations that have been created out of his governance model is also completely different".
To prove his point, Jairam Ramesh gave an example of Prhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUJ) launched by PM Modi and how successful it turned out for him.

"In 2019, all of us in political discourse me fun of one or two of his programmes, but it has turned out in all electoral studies that PMUJ is one single program which has been able to connect him with crores and crores of women and given him political traction which he didn't have in 2014," said Rajya Sabha member from Karnataka.

"w if we are going to run this down and say this is all hocus pocus and say se are wrong numbers, we are t going to confront this guy," Congress leer cautioned.
Stating that something happened in last dece, which catapulted PM Modi from a "n-entity in national politics" in 2009 general elections to someone who won elections back to back, Ramesh said people of country -- right or wrong -- are t relating "current distress to his presence".
"We talked about farmers distress throughout our entire campaign, people realise re was farmers' distress but y did t hold Modi responsible for it. You saw what happened in result of election reafter. We have to understand what me him respectable," Congress leer said.
Dubbing Komireddi's book as an "angry, absorbing and exceedingly well-written" one, Ramesh said, "It is persuasive in looking at what happened in last five years and looking ahe as to what we would expect from what has happened in last five years."
Jairam Ramesh, however, also expressed disagreement with author, who sought to blame first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and his family for all prevailing wrongs in country. Going 60 years back for something which happened in last dece does t work out, said Ramesh, questioning author's bid to blame Nehru for what ails country today. Published by Westland, book claims to "retell and recount betrayals of India's republican promise over last 70 years and retraces path that modern India has trodden since 1947".
