J&K: Cinema halls to reopen after 3 decades; first-ever multiplex to open in Srinagar soon

In a significant development for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Srinagar will get its first multiplex soon, after a long gap of three decades. eruption of militancy in Kashmir in 1989 led to a complete shutdown of atre industry in J&K, leading to shutting down of atres.
chairman of project, Vijay Dhar stated idea of opening a multiplex in Kashmir was to provide youngsters with same facilities as available to youth elsewhere in country. "We saw re had been such thing here for 30 years, we thought why t? So we've just started. idea is for youngsters to get same facilities as y get in any or town," as quoted by ANI.

J&K: Multiplex expected to be inaugurated in September
UT of J&K, which has been reeled under terrorism for many decades will see opening of movie atres 3 decades after beginning of a long phase of terrorism and three years after Article 370 was withdrawn by central government.
Multiplex, expected to be inaugurated in September will have three auditoriums equipped with latest sound systems and comfortable seating facilities. Speaking to ANI, project manr Vijay Dhar said, "We are starting first multiplex in Kashmir designed by IX. re are three auditoriums in which latest sound systems are installed. A silver screen is being used. Recliner seats, as well as rmal chairs, are also made available."

A total of over 520 people will be able to sit in Multiplex, which also has or associated facilities - a Food court, or entertainment facilities for attraction of children. work is in full swing to complete construction of Multiplex.
J&K administration grants permission for Multiplex
In June 2020, Jammu and Kashmir administration gave a go-ahead for setting up of a Multiplex cinema atre in Srinagar. permission was given under Cinematography Act-1952.

Attempts have been made earlier too, to revive movie industry in UT in 1999 when n CM Farooq Abdullah anunced cash subsidies for atre owners. Cinemas like Neelam, Regal and Broadway opened but, push wasn't successful as terrorists hurled grenades inside Regal and Neelam atres.
