The Jammu and Kashmir police on Tuesday exposed the fake news propaganda being spread by certain people over the prevailing situation in the Valley. Even after several efforts made by the J&K Police to inform the citizens about normalcy in Kashmir Valley and nearby areas, fake news 'lobby' has continued its efforts to spread propaganda against the government in the aftermath of abrogation of Article 370 in Jammy and Kashmir.
In a recent incident, J&K police countered the fake news on Twitter. CPI(ML) leader Kavita Krishnan took to Twitter and shared a news story on Kashmir, along with pictures, claiming the pictures to be from Heff Shirmal in Shopian district, ed by AP (Associated Press) journalist. However, busting the fake news propaganda, Shopian senior superintendent of police Sandeep Chaudhary replied to her tweet confirming that the banner picture of the AP story does not pertain to Shopian district. He also added that some of the pictures are neither from Shopian nor from 2019.
Kavita Krishnan replied to the tweet by the J&K police officer, alleging that the police is lying.
J&K police detains fake news peddlers
Earlier in August, the J&K police released a statement stating that it detained five persons for spreading fake news about the situation in the Valley. The J&K police said that the detainees had made sensitive remarks disturbing law and order in the region. The police had booked the five people under relevant sections of law and have started legal proceedings against them. All the booked people belonged to Rajouri and Poonch districts but appeared to be working outside Jammu and Kashmir. In the light of the developments, the J&K police had been warning the citizens about mischievous people attempting to instigate the public by spreading rumours and fake posts to disturb peace in the Valley.
