Slamming the BBC World News channel for referring to the Indian state of Jammu-Kashmir as the ‘Indian Occupied Kashmir’ while reporting on the abrogation of Article 370 and the state's bifurcation into two Union territories, Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, on Sunday, wondered why the British News Channel refused to recognise Kashmir's Indian identity. He also pointed out the contrast that the BBC World did not refer to  Northern Ireland as ‘British Occupied Ireland’.

BBC refutes fake coverage

Meanwhile, BBC News Press Team has tweeted a response to the questions on its Kashmir reportage stating that BBC stands by its journalism and have added that it is currently operating in severe restrictions in Kashmir, as several parts of the state continue to be under the no communication zone.

"Go to BBC.com and see what is happening there. What I had told is becoming true. They have scorched their hands in the fire, saving Kashmir is our priority. I request the honorable Modi ji to Amit Shah ji and Ajit Doval to do whatever they want to do, otherwise, Kashmir will get out of hand," said the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister.

Former union minister and Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday lambasted the BJP for the abrogation of Article 370, saying the saffron party would not have "snatched away" the special status had Jammu and Kashmir been a Hindu-dominated state adding that international news agencies were covering the unrest, but not Indian media houses.
