J&K's Article 370 scrapped: Rahul Gandhi panned by netizens for stand echoing Pakistan

As Rahul Gandhi reacted on Article 370 took the line similar to that of Pakistan, netizens called him out.

A day after bill to revoke Article 370 was passed in the Rajya Sabha, and after Union Home Minister Amit Shah moves the resolution to revoke Article 370 in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi has reacted on the development and said that this move will have major implications on national security. As he took the line similar to that of Pakistan, netizens called him out. 

Congress party on Tuesday asked in the Parliament how is Kashmir an internal issue and also said that Kashmir is monitored by the United Nations. Speaking in the lower house of the Parliament, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, the speaker of the Opposition claimed that the Centre has broken laws and has proposed to change a state into Union territory in one night. Interrupting at this moment the Home Minister said that Congress must specify which law has been broken. "Don't talk in general terms here. If you are saying then specify which rule have been broken."

Chowdhury then went on to ask is Kashmir an internal issue. "You say Kashmir is an internal matter but United nations is monitoring there since 1948. So how is it an internal matter. There was Simla Pact and then there was Lahore declaration, then how is it internal matter. Jaishankar said to Pompeo that it is bilateral issue, how is it an internal issue."

Congress party was widely criticised for their opinion and not standing by Nation's integrity. One of the person said that Pakistan media will be proud of him, while others said that Congress must review its stand on Article 370.

Rajya Sabha passed Jammu & Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill, 2019

The government had revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and proposed that the state be bifurcated into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.The Jammu & Kashmir (Reorganisation) Bill, 2019, which strips Jammu and Kashmir's status of a state and converts it into a Union Territory with legislature and carving out Ladakh region as a UT without legislature, was passed in a division pressed by the opposition with 125 votes in favor and 61 against, and an NCP member abstained.

What is Article 370?

It exempts Jammu and Kashmir from following the Indian Constitution except for Article 1 and itself. It also restricts Parliament's legislative powers in Jammu and Kashmir. It was passed in the Constituent Assembly on May 27, 1949 and is the first article of Part XXI of the Indian Constitution. The heading of this part is ‘Temporary, Transitional and Special Provisions’.
