A doctor from Kashmir and six non-local laborers were killed, and five others were injured in the attack at an under-construction tunnel in Gund on Sunday.
Chandigarh: Gurmeet Singh, one of the seven people killed in a terror attack in Ganderbal, Jammu and Kashmir, was on the phone with his wife when he was shot, his father said on Monday.
A doctor from Kashmir and six non-local laborers were killed, and five others were injured in the attack at an under-construction tunnel in Gund on Sunday.
Gurmeet Singh, 45, was from Sakhowal village in Punjab 's Gurdaspur district and worked as a construction worker.
"He was speaking to his wife over a mobile phone when this incident occurred. He told his wife that he had been hit by a bullet," said Gurmeet's father, Dharam Singh.
The family later learned that he had died from his injuries, Dharam Singh added. Gurmeet had been living in Kashmir for five years and had worked for the company for many years.
Another relative mentioned that Gurmeet was the main provider for his family and called on the state government to offer as much support as possible. Gurmeet is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, and his parents.
The family was heartbroken after his death in the terror attack.
On Sunday, unknown terrorists attacked when the laborers and other staff returned to their camp after working on the tunnel project in Gund. Officials reported that the terrorists, believed to be at least two, fired randomly at the group of laborers, which included both locals and non-locals.
While two laborers died instantly, four others and the doctor later died from their injuries, the officials said.
