Andhra Pradesh government, on Monday, renamed 'Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Pratibha Puraskar Awards to 'YSR Vidya Puraskaras'. The awards are presented to Secondary and Higher Secondary students on November 11 which is the birth anniversary of the former President, which is celebrated as National Education Day. The award is now renamed after the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy's father YSR Reddy.
The order faced sharp criticism from former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu. Taking to Twitter, he said that Dr. Kalam has accomplished much for the nation with his inspiring life and that changing of name by Jagna led Andhra government is a "shocking method of self-aggrandizement at the cost of disrespecting a much-venerated man."

Moreover, the Jagan led govt has also passed an order that gives permission to the secretariats to sue media houses. Press Council of India last week took suo-moto cognisance of the order. Since the govt came to power in May this year, it has passed many such controversial orders. Often the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led govt has renamed the TDP government schemes after his father - YSR, most famously, Jagan Mohan Reddy renamed the NTR Vaidya Seva to YSR Arogyasri. The govt also renamed Anna NTR Canteen to Rajanna Canteen as people used to call YSR Rajanna.
