JAMMU: In a pivotal development to curb facilitation of terror activities in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, Police in Baramulla have launched a key offensive, seizing a residential property and a Swift Car under the stringent UA(P) Act 25.
An official told Republic that the strategic move comes after extensive investigations into cases registered at Uri Police Station, located near the Line of Control (LoC), and Police Station in Kreeri that saw various encounters in the recent years, resulting in the elimination of both local and foreign terrorists in 2022 and 2023. The confiscation of a Swift Car, registered as CH01AD-9588, was a crucial breakthrough, as it was found to have been used for transportation of illegal arms and ammunition for terrorism-related activities.
Empowered by UA(P)A Section 25, Deputy Superintendent of Police (SP), SIU Baramulla and Deputy SP of Operations in Kreeri have taken swift action in the matter, an official confirmed to Republic.
The owner of the attached property has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Wanigam Payeen in the Baramulla district. The seized property was believed to be a hub for harbouring terrorists, which eventually gave way to its seizure in accordance with the provisions of the UA(P) Act.
The comprehensive action exhibits the law enforcement agencies' dedication towards dismantling the support networks fuelling terrorism, by disrupting logistical chains and safe havens utilized by individuals engaged in nefarious activities. The bold step taken in this direction marks a significant stride in the region's efforts to combat terrorism and ensure a safer environment for its residents.
