Top LeT Commander Trapped as Encounter Breaks Out in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama

A senior police officer confirmed to Republic TV the exchange of firing between terrorists and security forces.

Srinagar: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Nihama area of South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday morning, June 3. An official said that the Special Operation Group (SOG) joint teams of Jammu and Kashmir police and the Indian Army's 50 Rashtriya Rifle (RR) launched a cordon and search operation in Nihama. Acting on intelligence and local inputs about the presence of two terrorists in the area, the security officials launched an operation to trap the terrorists.

According to our sources, top LeT commander Reyaz Ahmed, who has been involved in multiple terror attacks and killings of security personnel, is believed to be trapped in the encounter. Another local terrorist, identified as Rayees Ahmed of LeT, is believed to be with Reyaz, sources further added.

As the forces approached the suspected spot, the terrorists fired upon them, triggering a gunfight. Firing from both sides is underway, according to reports.
