Javadekar details steps on stubble burning to counter Delhi air woes

Prakash Javekar, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, dressing a press conference on October 7 spoke on issue of stubble burning. Javekar highlighted how stubble burning impacts Delhi’s air quality in months of winter. He ted that central Government has provided Rs. 1150 crore assistance for machines that will allow stubble to be converted to manure.
"re is a need to do it much more. w it has started, earlier it h t even started. It has been burning for 20 years, but work has started w,' Javekar said in a statement.

dressing a press conference, minister said that problem of burning stubble was old. He furr ded that steps have been taken by Modi Government in order to tackle problem. Javekar, speaking of issue, stated that farmers in Haryana and Punjab have been burning stubble for years w. Furrmore, he asserted that if such polluted air reaches Delhi, it is only going to d to worries of capital territory.

" biggest question and it will come again is stubble burning," Javekar stated at press conference.

"If (polluted) air comes to Delhi, issue becomes serious. For this, central government has provided assistance of Rs 1150 crore and 18,000 machines have been given to farmers in Punjab and Haryana. y will t need to burn stubble. It will be broken and will be turned into manure,"
Javekar stated that Government has for first time me ‘construction and demolition waste manment rules’ which are based on those followed for construction of metros. He ded that three units to deal with construction and demolition waste were working, with ar four to be set up soon. Minister asserted that se measures have prevented six lakh tonne of debris from flowing into rivers and drains. Furrmore, he ded that bio-mining was being used in landfills like Ghazipur which is going to help in segregating material in order to decompose organic material.
