Jharkhand provides a relief period, postpones the Motor Vehicle Act

Jharkhand Government, in order to provide relief to the people from fines, has delayed the implementation of the Motor Vehicle Act for the next three months.

Jharkhand Government, in order to provide relief to people from paying hefty fines for traffic transgressions, has decided to postpone implementation of Motor Vehicle Act.  Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Bill is going to tighten ro traffic regulations such as allotment of driving licence along with imposing stricter penalties for violations to improve ro safety. In an effort to give relief to motorists, Jharkhand Government has delayed its implementation. Chief Minister Raghubar Das has instructed transport department to open facilitation centres in  state so that people are enabled to get ir documents in order in next three months.

Jharkhand Government provides three-month relief 

Jharkhand Government while delaying Motor Vehicle Act has asked residents to complete all ir documentation. By putting Act on hold for a period of three months, government is providing citizens with a buffer period to make sure all state residents have ir documentation in order. Transport Minister tified media that some amendments were me in Act. However,  state has decided to provide a buffer period for residents to get everything in order before implementation.

'Taking cognisance of people's safety some amendments were me in Motor Vehicle Act by Centre. However, taking te of issues people are facing, we have decided to give three-month relief to people so that y can get ir documents in order,' stated CP Singh, Jharkhand Transport Minister.

Motor Vehicle Act 

Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, 2019, came into effect on September 1. This bill was approved by President on August 9, 2019.  government has tified 63 clauses in Motor Vehicle Act that deal with penalties, licences, registrations and National Transport Policy among ors. In lieu of heavy fines under Motor Vehicle Act, several states have decided to put its implementation on hold. Gujarat and Uttarakhand have anunced a cut in penalties for traffic transgressions under Act.
