JNU sedition: Delhi govt seeks month's time to grant sanction to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and others
The Delhi government on Wednesday sought before a court here a month's time to decide whether to grant sanction to prosecute former JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar and others in the 2016 JNU sedition case.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat directed AAP government to file a "proper reply", citing a definite time-frame.
DCP of Special Cell of Delhi Police, Pramod Kushwaha, h earlier told court that ncy has alrey sent a request to Delhi government seeking sanction and ded that sanction was an ministrative action and charge sheet can be filed without that.

Delhi Police h earlier told court that authorities were yet to give requisite sanctions to prosecute Kumar and ors in case, and it would take two to three months to procure sanctions.

On January 14, police h filed a charge sheet in court against Kumar and ors, saying he was leing a procession and supported seditious slogans raised in JNU campus during an event on February 9, 2016
After Patiala High Court told Delhi police to obtain sanction for its 2016 JNU case charge sheet from Arvind Kejriwal government, Delhi chief minister has given a statement over issue, claiming that case is being "studied" by government back in end of February.

While speaking to media, Kejriwal expressed his dubiety, considering timing of charge sheet being filed ahe of Parliamentary elections.
He said, " case is being studied by government. Police took three years to file charge sheet and y filed it without permission, ahe of elections, so it raises many questions."
Delhi Police h filed a 1200-p charge sheet in Patiala House court on January 14, carrying in documentary and electronic evidence in a massive metal box. In charge sheet, ten persons, including Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya were named as main-accused along with seven ors, while 36 persons, including Shelha Rashid were named under a list of persons against whom re was insufficient evidence. A few days later, however, Patiala House Court declined to take cognisance of charge sheet as Delhi government hn't given its sanction. judge asked Delhi police why it h filed it without sanction as it didn't have a legal department of its own, with police responding that file has been sent but reply received.

Republic on January 22, accessed three-year-old video evidence of anti-India sloganeering at JNU campus. According to Delhi Police, aunticity of video evidence h been confirmed by Forensic labs, and following incidence, statements h been taken from students, security guards and staff.

slogans that could be seen and heard being raised in videos accessed by Republic Bharat, in pro-Afzal Guru protest, included:
