JNU student body polls held in Free & Fair Manner: Election committee

Election Committee of JNU says the students' body polls were conducted in a free & fair manner, after Umesh Kadama alleged a violation in the September 6 polls

Election Committee (EC) of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) has said that  students' body polls were conducted in a fair way. EC clarified voting system after Dean of Students, Umesh Kam, alleged that EC h violated Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations (LCR), asking for an explanation through a letter on September 9. Umesh Kam is also chairman of Grievance Redressal Cell (GRC) in JNU. EC of JNUSU replied to Kam, claiming that y h conducted elections in a free and fair manner by following LCR.

'Elections Conducted in a Fair Way'

Kam demanded a response from members of EC to 10 allegations and asked m to prove ir incence with documents. " letters were dispatched after office hours with guards coming inside hostel late at night to get a receiving of summon," EC said. EC alleged that letter was sent by violating rules of LCR like clause 6.8.4 of LCR prohibits GRC members from filing complaints, clause number 6.8.5 of LCR states parties are t considered tified until y have received a copy of complaint, and clause 6.8.7 of LCR states that hearing should t be held within 24 hours after receipt of tice. All India Students' Association held a protest against alleged "GRC interference and intimidation of JNU EC". Kam h alleged on Wednesday that students gared in his office and raised slogans against ministration.

JNU Students' Union Polls

JNUSU polls OF 2019 were held on September 6 and results were supposed to be out by September 8. But  Delhi High Court has withheld results of polls until September 17 due to pleas by two students alleging ir minations being illegally rejected by JNUSU. Even after results were t released, students were overjoyed and celebrated in campus after counting of votes was declared. pleas of students claimed that ir mination was rejected without presenting any reasons.
