The Election Committee (EC) of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) has said that the students' body polls were conducted in a fair way. The EC clarified the voting system after the Dean of Students, Umesh Kadam, alleged that the EC had violated the Lyngdoh Committee Recommendations (LCR), asking for an explanation through a letter on September 9. Umesh Kadam is also the chairman of the Grievance Redressal Cell (GRC) in JNU. The EC of the JNUSU replied to Kadam, claiming that they had conducted the elections in a free and fair manner by following the LCR.
'Elections Conducted in a Fair Way'
Kadam demanded a response from members of the EC to 10 allegations and asked them to prove their innocence with documents. "The letters were dispatched after office hours with guards coming inside the hostel late at night to get a receiving of the summon," EC said. The EC alleged that the letter was sent by violating rules of the LCR like clause 6.8.4 of the LCR prohibits GRC members from filing complaints, clause number 6.8.5 of the LCR states parties are not considered notified until they have received a copy of the complaint, and clause 6.8.7 of LCR states that the hearing should not be held within 24 hours after the receipt of the notice. The All India Students' Association held a protest against the alleged "GRC interference and intimidation of JNU EC". Kadam had alleged on Wednesday that students gathered in his office and raised slogans against the administration.
JNU Students' Union Polls
The JNUSU polls OF 2019 were held on September 6 and the results were supposed to be out by September 8. But the Delhi High Court has withheld the results of the polls until September 17 due to pleas by two students alleging their nominations being illegally rejected by the JNUSU. Even after the results were not released, the students were overjoyed and celebrated in the campus after the counting of the votes was declared. The pleas of the students claimed that their nomination was rejected without presenting any reasons.
