New Delhi: The autopsy report of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, who was brutally killed and dumped in a septic tank in Chhattisgarh ’s Bastar, has revealed disturbing details of the gruesome murder. According to the sources, the report stated that his liver was severed into pieces, five of his ribs were broken, and his head had around 15 fractures. Based on the autopsy report, the Bastar police claimed that the nature of the injuries points to the deceased’s brutal torture before the murder.
As per the police officials, the 28-year-old freelance journalist, Mukesh Chandrakar was found dead in a septic tank on January 3, at a property owned by a local contractor in Chattanpara Basti located in the Bastar district. As per the claims, he had been missing since January 1, and his brother filed a missing persons report, leading to a police search.
SIT Arrests Main Accused From Hyderabad
The government formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which initiated a probe and nabbed the prime suspect in the murder, identified as Suresh Chandrakar, in Hyderabad late Sunday evening. The police are interrogating the accused to ascertain the details regarding the real motive behind the murder of the journalist and the involvement of others.
Earlier, the Bastar police had detained three suspects in connection with the murder, a day before the arrest of the main accused. A senior police official stated that the investigating teams are exploring all angles, including Mukesh's work on a corruption case that may have played a role in his death.
Reportedly, Mukesh was working on a story about irregularities in a road construction project linked to the contractor whose property became the scene of his murder. The police believe that the journalist’s investigation into the scam, which he had reported days before his disappearance, may have led to his brutal killing.
The elder brother of the deceased, Yukesh confirmed that his brother had received threats related to his work. Notably, Mukesh was known for his contributions to prominent news channels and for running a popular YouTube channel, Bastar Junction, with over 1.5 lakh subscribers.
On the other hand, local journalists, on Monday, staged a symbolic road blockade at Hospital Chowk on National Highway 36, demanding swift action against the contractor and his associates. The protestors have called for the attachment of Suresh Chandrakar’s properties in Bastar, freezing his bank accounts, and seeking the death penalty for those responsible for the murder.
Further legal action into the matter is underway.
