Justice Rajendra Menon to be appointed Armed Forces Tribunal chairman
Former Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, Justice Rajendra Menon is all set to be appointed as the new Chairman of the Armed Forces Tribunal.

Former Chief Justice of Delhi High Court, Justice Rajendra Men is all set to be appointed as new Chairman of Armed Forces Tribunal. During a hearing in a suo-moto petition regarding appointment of members of Armed Forces Tribunal, Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi stated that Justice Men’s name h been recommended as new Chairperson of Tribunal.

Attorney General K K Venugopal asked Supreme Court to defer appointment of Tribunal members to a later date since provisions of Act governing appointment were under challenge. “Until that matter has been decided, appointment should be deferred,” said Venugopal. Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi refused to do so. He told Attorney General K K Venugopal that appointment should be done at earliest. Venugopal n reassured Supreme Court that Appointments Committee of Central Government would clear name of Justice Men.

Who is Justice Rajendra Men?
Justice Rajendra Men who started practicing law in 1982 was Standing Counsel for Central Government from 1991 till his elevation to Bench. He was also appointed as Welfare Commissioner for Bhopal Gas Victims Compensation Commission during period December 2010 to March 2015. He served as Acting Chief Justice of Mhya Presh High Court from 2016 to 2017 and was sworn in as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on August 9, 2018. Principal Bench of Armed Forces Tribunal in national capital consists of four members including current Chairperson Justice Virender Singh. Appointed on January 3, 2017, Justice Singh is set to retire on October 6, 2019.
