'Justice will be served tomorrow, just matter of one night': Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi

Asha Devi who fought a long battle seeking justice for her late daughter stated, "now it's just a matter of one night and tomorrow justice will be served"

Delhi's Patiala House court on Thursday rejected a plea seeking a stay on executions of four convicts in Nirbhaya rape and murder case. four convicts are set to be hanged at 5:30 am on Friday in Tihar Jail. Finally moving towards closure, Nirbhaya's mor Asha Devi who fought a long battle seeking justice for her late daughter stated, "w it's just a matter of one night and tomorrow justice will be served."

Reacting to news of convicts' hanging on March 20, Nirbhaya's Far Badrinath Singh said that his family is very happy and whole country is happy that rapists will finally be hanged.

Speaking to Republic TV, Nirbhaya's far said, "We are completely assured this time that y will be hanged at 5:30 am on Friday. Patiala House Court and Supreme Court has confirmed it. y have run out of all legal remedies. We are very happy, society is very happy and country is very happy. Thanks to support of everyone, we have won this fight."

Speaking about delay tactics by AP Singh, lawyer of Nirbhaya convicts, Badrinath Singh said, "re are many loopholes in our legal system and y took advant of it. re should be a time limit on such cases."

Patiala House Court dismisses plea

Additional Sessions Judge Dharmender Rana of Patiala House Court on Thursday dismissed plea of convicts in Nirbhaya rape and murder case to stay execution of ir death warrants.

Earlier in day, a six-judge bench of Supreme Court comprising Justices NV Ramana, Arun Mishra, Rohinton Nariman, R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and AS Bopanna rejected second curative plea filed by convict Pawan pertaining to juvenility. Meanwhile, apex court also refused to entertain petition of ar rapist Akshay who contended that he was t in Delhi at time when crime was committed.

What is Nirbhaya rape and murder case? 

A 23-year-old paramedic student Nirbhaya was gang-raped inside a running bus by six persons on December 16, 2012, in Delhi. victim was severely assaulted and thrown out on road along with her male friend and succumbed to injuries a few days later. Out of six convicts, one reportedly committed suicide in prison, while ar, a juvenile, served maximum punishment of three years in a reform home and was set free in 2015. remaining four rapists were convicted and handed death penalty by a trial court in 2013, confirmed by Delhi High Court in March 2014. Supreme Court upheld Delhi High Court's verdict in 2017.
