Kamlesh Tiwari murder case: Three suspects arrested by Gujarat ATS

According to the sources, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested three persons in relation to the murder case of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari. The identity of these persons has not been revealed at this juncture. In a separate development, news agency Asian News International has reported that the Uttar Pradesh police is investigating Maulana Anwarul Haq from Bijnor. In 2015, he had placed a bounty of Rs.51 lakh for beheading Kamlesh Tiwari. He was one of the two suspects named by Tiwari’s wife in her complaint to the police.

Tiwari’s murder

Formerly a leader of the Hindu Mahasabha, Tiwari was the founder of the Hindu Samaj Party. In fact, according to eyewitnesses, the attackers barged into Tiwari’s office and opened fire at him. Though he was immediately rushed to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries shortly. While the assailant managed to flee the spot, a revolver was also recovered from the site of the crime. Senior police officers such as Inspector General Lucknow SK Bhagat, Superintendent of Police Crime Lucknow Dinesh Puri and Deputy Superintendent of Police Special Task Force PK Mishra are part of the newly constituted SIT to probe the case. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh indicated that the accused knew Tiwari. He claimed that they spent around 30 minutes with him on the pretext of gifting him sweets.

The Gujarat link 

Sources contend that the address mentioned on the box of sweets is that of a sweet shot in Udhna area of Surat. The UP police immediately contacted the Gujarat police after confirming this information. Subsequently, the local police apparently collected the footage of the CCTV near the shop to get further clues. Moreover, the Gujarat ATS is reportedly exploring another angle. An alleged conversation between two ISIS suspects about eliminating Tiwari featured in an official chargesheet, has come under the scanner. These suspects were arrested in 2017.
