Kamlesh Tiwari murder: UP police announces reward for arrests

Uttar Pradesh police on Monday announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh each for information that could lead to the arrest of two suspects who allegedly murdered former chief of Hindu Mahasabha, Kamlesh Tiwari on October 18. The reward has been announced by the Director General of Police (DGP) Uttar Pradesh OP Singh.
This comes after the UP police brought three other accused in the case to Lucknow after a court in Ahmedabad granted 72-hour transit remand to the police on Sunday. The accused, identified as Maulana Mohsin Sheikh (24), Khurshid Ahmed Pathan (23) and Faizan (21), were arrested by a joint team of Gujarat Police and the Uttar Pradesh Police in Surat. The accused will now be presented in the court or at the house of a duty magistrate or judge in Lucknow.

Leaving nothing to chance
Speaking to the media Singh said that the police have been interrogating the Maulanas of Bijnaur regularly and the connections of the murder lie inside and outside Uttar Pradesh. When queried about the modus operandi of the UP police, the DGP said, "We are leaving nothing to chance. The case is being investigated very minutely leaving no possible angle in the investigation. The police department is also in touch with heads of police departments of all states, including Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, and Ambala."

Social media under surveillance
Earlier on Sunday, the DGP said that police are keeping a tab on social media to prevent rumor-mongering."We are monitoring social media. If required we will take legal action so that no false information is spread among people. We are observing social media very deeply and minutely", he had said. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) on Sunday, detained one person in connection with the murder of Kamlesh Tiwari at his residence in Lucknow.

About the case:
Former chief of Hindu Mahasabha, Kamlesh Tiwari, was murdered on Friday afternoon inside his residence in Naka Hindola area of Lucknow. He was stabbed and shot multiple times by unidentified assailants. Soon after the attack, he was admitted to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. While the assailants managed to flee the spot, a revolver was recovered from the site of the crime. Police stated that the accused spent around 30 minutes with him on the pretext of gifting him sweets. The police had registered an FIR based on a complaint filed by Tiwari’s wife where she accused two persons of having threatened to kill her husband in 2016.
