New Delhi: Before the Lok Sabha speaker election on Wednesday, former co-stars and current Lok Sabha MPs Chirag Paswan and Kangana Ranaut shared some light-hearted moments. A video captured them hugging, chatting, posing for the camera, and shaking hands has also been doing rounds on social media.

Chirag Paswan and Kangana Ranaut,  co-starred in the 2011 movie "Mile Na Mile Hum". The film, which was Chirag's only acting venture, featured him as a tennis player who falls for Kangana's character.

While speaking to reporters before Lok Sabha Speaker election, BJP MP-actor Kangana Ranaut exuded confidence, saying, "We will vote. My stand is the same as that of my party. We are very excited. For me, this is the first time, so I am very excited...We will win as our party is in power. So, our candidate will win..."

Union Minister Chirag Paswan said, "The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is not of any particular party. He is for the whole House. It is a tradition that the Speaker must be chosen unanimously... This situation has risen because of the persistence of the Opposition. They do not have enough numbers..."

Om Birla Elected as Lok Sabha Speaker

Meanwhile, Om Birla was elected as Lok Sabha speaker after a motion moved by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was adopted through voice vote. While thanking the House on being elected as the Lok Sabha Speaker for the second consecutive term, Birla said he will work to uphold the high standards of Parliamentary traditions. "Treasury and opposition benches run the House together, the strength of Indian democracy is in listening to everyone, and running the House with everyone's agreement. I will expect that I run the House with everyone's agreement. Even if there is a lone member from a party, they should get sufficient time," Birla said.

"It will be my expectation that the House runs without obstruction. We are elected by people with hope, that is why I urge there should not be disruptions in the House. There can be criticism, but obstruction is not a tradition of the House. Rushing to the Well is not a tradition of Parliament. I never want to act against any member, but everyone wants the high standard of Parliamentary tradition to be maintained. For that I have to make tough decisions at times," he added.

While stating that agreements and disagreements are a part of the tradition of the House, he hoped opposition would give constructive suggestions and government will incorporate those suggestions. "I urge all that in the 18th Lok Sabha, while remembering the great architects of Constitution, we should make policies and laws that will help the downtrodden sections of the society," he said.
