Around 63 celebrities across all professions in the likes of Bollywood, theatre artists, and professors have written a letter on 'selective outrage' and 'false narratives' to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is in response to the open letter written previously to the government claiming intolerance in the country under the rule of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking exclusively to Republic TV, Indian film director, Vivek Agnihotri, and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut have stood by the 'selective outrage' counter letter stating that they are 'people who are misusing their power and position to generate a false narrative that under the current government things are going wrong'. Ranaut stated that the common people have chosen their representative leaders and the ones who have disregarded it are the ones who have 'no respect ' or 'consideration' for democracy.
Vivek Agnihotri, on the other hand, launched a personal attack on Anurag Kashyap calling him a 'leftist' and mentioned that Aparna Sen is often seen spending time with Naxalites. Expressing shock over the fact that one of the signatories of the 'intolerance' letter Binayak Sen is a convicted Naxalite, Agnihotri said, "From the past five years, there is a trend of sorts that has started wherein fifty people or so bring up the 'intolerance' debate saying that the whole Hindu community is responsible for it, but this is highly incorrect".
Explaining his stance further and pinpointing that the group selectively decides to speak on certain issues, he said, "When there is lynching in the streets nobody thinks who support the Left or the Right, and neither do they stop to think as to who is a Hindu or a Muslim. All they are trying to do is criminalize crimes and divide the citizens of the country and opposing to all this we have written a letter".

For the uninitiated, the 'selective outrage' letter signed by celebrities in the likes of Kangana Ranaut, Madhur Bhandarkar, and Prasoon Joshi among others states that the 'intolerance lobby' has strangely kept quiet on, the 2-page document and do not display the courage to stand beside women who are struggling against the regressive Triple Talaq tradition and that they choose to speak up only on 'selective issues'.
