Kanpur Cylinder Blast: One Dead, One Injured After Gas Cylinder Explosion

One person died, and another was seriously injured following a gas cylinder explosion in Kanpur on Thursday.

Kanpur: In a tragic accident in Kanpur’s Sisamau area, a 40-year-old died and his woman was injured after a gas cylinder exploded. The injured woman was rushed to the hospital with severe burns. Police officers arrived on the scene and immediately started an investigation.

“A person named surendra was bringing the cylinder and the explosion occurred as the cylinder was being unloaded. FSL teams have reached the spot. The investigation is underway", said ADCP Mukesh Kumar.

While the man died on the spot, his 38-year-old wife who rushed to his rescue suffered severe injuries and has been hospitalised, the police officer said, adding no other person was injured in the incident.

He said the local police and forensic experts reached the spot shortly after the incident and the exact cause of the explosion was yet to be ascertained.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and further legal proceedings in the case are underway, the DCP said.

The incident occurred near Ganesh Park in Gandhinagar, where the couple was carrying a gas cylinder on their motorcycle. Suddenly, the cylinder exploded, resulting in the death of the man and serious burns for the woman.

Eyewitnesses described the explosion as intense, shaking nearby houses and damaging several vehicles parked nearby. 

Heavy police forces and a bomb disposal team were called to secure the area and investigate the cause of the blast. The incident caused panic among local residents.

"Surendra was returning home with an LPG cylinder on his two-wheeler. While trying to unload the cylinder from the bike in front of his house, it exploded," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Dinesh Tripathi told reporters.
