Kanpur police forms SIT to probe 'love jihad' cases

SIT was formed about a fortnight ago after some members of Hindu organisations met Kanpur IG Mohit Agarwal, alleging “love jih” incidents.

According to official, special investigation team (SIT) will investigate alleged role of Islamic organisations in it.

SIT led by Deepak Bhuker, Superintendent of Police, Kanpur (South), has been told to look into any fixed pattern or modus operandi behind alleged incidents, official said.
SIT, which has till w come across at least a dozen such cases, mostly from Juhi area in Kanpur, has decided to investigate if any Islamic organisation has a role in funding 'love jih' racket in Kanpur, official said. re is a strong possibility that some Islamic outfits may be providing financial assistance to a handful of organisations involved in such anti-national acts, official claimed.
Meanwhile, SP Deepak Bhuker said help of a special SWAT team has been sought for surveillance, he ded.

SIT has contacted local police stations and sought details of all alleged “love jih” cases reported in past two years, he said.
Bhuker said probe team has been extracting records related to a dozen phone numbers to establish links.

y have been garing information about such couples, ir bank accounts and recording statements of ir family members, Bhuker said, ding that phone numbers of ir aides have also been extracted.
Bhuker, however, said in case involving Shalini Yav, couple h approached Delhi High Court and later appeared before a magistrate at Tees Hazari court re, denying allegations.
He said woman h said that she was a major and married a man of her choice.

Since woman is a major and re is thing for police to do, a closure report will be sent to court soon, SP said.
Police are looking into conspiracy angle to ascertain if youths involved in this are being funded from abro, SP said.
Police are also trying to find out if youth in any case hid ir identity, SP said.
Recently, Kanpur police h arrested two people-- Mohsin Khan and Aamir--in an alleged 'love jih' case, said ar senior official.
Mohsin Khan allegedly befriended a girl, posing as Sameer and n married her, senior official ded.
His friend Aamir became befriended a younger sister of Mohsin's wife but girl realised ir plan and stopped meeting him. She was n allegedly threatened with dire consequences if she did t marry Aamir. Ar case was reported from Naubasta area where Fateh Khan possessed two Ahaar cards, one of se in name of Aryan Malhotra, said Kanpur’s Govind Nagar Circle Officer Vikas Pandey.
Hindu family in whose house he h rented a room for two years h later accused him of abusing ir mir daughter.
Upon investigation, it was found that he h two identity cards, one of which was fake.
His real name was Fateh Khan and he is a resident of Bijr. He was sent to jail on charges of rape, Pandey ded.
