New Delhi: A drone ban has been imposed in the Kargil district of Ladakh ahead of PM Narendra Modi's visit for Kargil Vijay Diwas, as per a notification released by the Ladakh UT Administration. The ban will be in effect for two days on July 25 and 26.

Official Notification

“Whereas, in view of Kargil Vijay Diwas 2024 and the visit of VVIPs to Drass on 25th and 26th July 2024, SSP Kargil has requested this office to issue an appropriate order to impose a ban on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to mitigate any security risks to the VVIPs,” stated the notification.

 ‘I, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, IAS, District Magistrate, Kargil, do hereby order that the whole area/ revenue limits of Sub Division Drass and Tehsil Kargil of District Kargil shall be "No Flying Zone" for the purpose of flying of drones and ban Unmanned Aerial Vehicles as well as declare said area to be "Red Zone" under the Drone Rules 2021, from 24th July 2024 up to 26th July 2024.’ stated the notification further.

What is Kargil Vijay Diwas

India celebrates Kargil Vijay Diwas on 26th July every year to honour its soldiers who fought in Kargil war of 1999 against Pakistani forces.  India is marking the 25th anniversary of its victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil War. India fought Kargil War with Pakistan after Pakistani troopers infiltrated into the Indian territory and occupied strategic positions on the Indian side of LOC. 

PM Modi's Schedule

As India is celebrating 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas, PM Modi is set visit Kargil on July 26th to commemorate this milestone of Kargil Vijay Diwas and pay tributes to the brave soldiers who fought for the country in the war.

As per the schedule, PM Modi will visit and inspect the Kargil War Museum and interact with the Veer Naris (war widows). In 2022, PM Modi laid the foundation of the Kargil War Museum during his Diwali visit to Kargil.

Additionally, PM Modi will also virtually inaugurate the Shinku La Tunnel as part of his visit.
