Karnataka: BJP MP Srinivasa Prasad slams Yediyurappa over Tipu Sultan

Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Chamarajanagar, V Srinivasa Pras has criticised BS Yediyurappa-led BJP government in Karnataka for giving more importance to Tipu Sultan. Pras said that state government should concentrate on drought relief works in state. This statement of BJP MP comes after Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said that government would drop everything related to Tipu Sultan.
Speaking to media Pras said, "I have told you how many problems we have in ministration in state at present. I told it clearly, we are reaching 100 days after forming government after coalition government collapsed, MLAs who were reason to form government in state are w disqualified and y are on ro w... When we have se many problems was it required to rise Tipu Sultan issue at this point in time?"

Pras said that Yediyurappa took decision about removing lessons related to Tipu Sultan from textbooks in "hurry". "He must have thought about such a sensitive issue. History has been interpreted at different times in different angles by different people. It's a sensitive issue, Yediyurappa must t have taken decision in hurry," Pras said.

'Drop everything related to Tipu Sultan'
Earlier, Karnataka CM Yediyurappa on Tuesday said that government will drop everything related to Tipu Sultan and Tipu Jayanti. Yediyurappa also mentioned government is also thinking to remove everything related to Tipu Sultan in textbooks. "About Tipu Jayanti, we are going to drop everything. We are also thinking to drop everything in textbooks about him. I do t agree with people who say that Tipu Sultan was a freedom fighter," Yediyurappa said.

On Monday, Karnataka Education Minister Suresh Kumar asked officials to look into demand of a BJP MLA that lesson on Tipu Sultan, controversial 18th-century ruler of erstwhile Mysore Kingdom be removed from history textbooks, and submit a report in three days. Primary and Secondary Education Minister has written a te to Managing Director of Karnataka Textbook Society, asking m to invite MLA Appachu Ranjan and discuss matter.

BJP cancels Tipu Jayanti
Earlier in July, taking its first decision after assuming power in Karnataka, BJP government under BS Yediyuruppa has cancelled Tipu Jayanti celebrated on occasion of birthday of Tipu Sultan on vember 10 every year. State Government's Kanna and Culture Department has taken decision in a cabinet meeting to t celebrate Tipu Jayanti.
