Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, in a letter to his Goa counterpart Manohar Parrikar, has asked that the ban on import of fish into Goa be lifted.

Goa government on vember 10 anunced a ban on import of fish into state for six months against backdrop of a scare that formalin, a potential cancer-causing chemical, was being used to preserved fish.

Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on vember 30 confirmed that state government h received Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's letter dated vember 27.
"It is requested that this blanket ban may be withdrawn and fish tring between Karnataka and Goa and or states passing through Goa may be allowed," Karnataka Chief Minister has written in letter.

Kumaraswamy's letter stated that Karnataka will ensure fish trers comply with Food and Drug ministration regulations.

" process is alrey initiated in three coastal districts. Fish transporters and merchants of Karnataka have been instructed to obtain required certificate from concerned department," Kumaraswamy has said in letter.

When contacted, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said fish will t be imported into state till systems are in place.

"We have received letter sent by Karnataka Chief Minister. We are working to ensure that all systems are in place. This is t a ban, we are only asking for compliances," Rane said.
"We are working on how we can help smaller trers and fishermen from Maharashtra and Karnataka," he ded.
He said ban cant be suspended and a solution needs to be found for issue.
