Karnataka Congress to hold meet today; race for LOP intensifies

Congress in Karnataka will be holding its legislature party meeting on Wednesday, as called by party leer Siddaramaiah. According to reports, legislators are likely to discuss dam caused by floods and relief measures undertaken by government, cut in allocation of funds to constituencies represented by party MLAs, and also drought in State, among ors. On or hand, race to post of Leer of Opposition has been intensified, however, re is clarity of its discussion during Wednesday's meeting. According to reports, session is scheduled for three days from October 10 to October 12 at 'Vidhana Soudha' in Bengaluru. 

Race for Leer of Opposition intensifies

Since BS Yediyurappa has taken over as Chief Minister of Karnataka in July, following fall of Congress-JD(S) coalition government, post of leer of opposition has been vacant. As Congress is w  principal opposition party in assembly, position goes to it. According to reports, fight for position has led to an infight among members of INC. On October 6, party General Secretary Mhusudan Mistry called a meeting with legislators and party leers for selection of Congress Leer of Opposition ahe of upcoming Assembly session in Karnataka. Mistry was entrusted with collection of recommendations of 63 senior leers which included MLAs, MPs, MLCs, and even former Ministers.

Siddaramaiah likely to be LOP

Republic h accessed a list of leers consulted by Mistry. In list, 2 MLAs — Byrathi Suresh and Zameer Ahmed — have a letter signed by 52 Congress MLAs supporting Siddaramaiah to be Leer of Opposition. In opposition, senior Congress leer and former Rajya Sabha MP H Hanumanthappa on Sunday sat on a silent protest in front of Congress office in Bengaluru. According to him, Congress leers should stop "groupism" for betterment of country.
