Karnataka keen on setting up immunology & vaccine research centre in Bengaluru: Deputy CM
Karnataka is eager to establish an Immunology and Vaccine Research Centre in Bengaluru in association with the Emory Vaccine Centre of Atlanta University.

Karnataka is er to establish an Immulogy and Vaccine Research Centre in Bengaluru in association with Emory Vaccine Centre of Atlanta University, said Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan on Monday.
"Immulogy is going to be prospective area in near future. Vaccines, infectious diseases, cancer research, etc all this boils down ultimately to immulogy. results of researches done w in field of immulogy will be solutions to problems of coming days.
Hence, investments done in this area are going to fetch fruitful results," Narayan said during a webinar meeting with director of Emory vaccine centre, Dr Rafi Ahamm.
Narayan said that whole world is eyeing on immulogy and effective vaccine at this st of pandemic. refore, decision to set up an immulogy and vaccine research centre is conducive to present situation, he ded.

New ways of Coronavirus testing
Deputy Chief Minister said that Karnataka government is also very keen on new ways of COVID-19 diagstic tests. He also said state needs to focus on research in vaccine development, clinical trials, and translation of research studies to benefit of people.

"re are at least 20 institutions of national eminence that are engd in vaccine development activities. All se will be integrated and government is rey to support through policy implementation. rigid restrictions which were in place earlier with regard to clinical trials are w being relaxed," said Narayan.
Dr Rafi Ahamm said that Emory vaccine centre has developed a highly specified and sensitive rapid test for COVID-19, which has been effectively opted by hospitals in Atlanta. Emory centre is also engd in development of plasma rapy for treating Coronavirus. centre would submit a specific proposal of collaboration with government of Karnataka. A couple of COVID-19 vaccines developed at Emory centre may get provisional license in about 6 to 8 months he ded.

"At present, clinical trials with respect to three vaccines of COVID-19 are at forefront. Among se two trails are in third st. vaccines need to be trialled on 30,000 patients. evaluation process is being carried out. If efficacy of se vaccines is found to be more than 50 per cent, y may get a provisional license," said Dr Rafi Ahamm.
