As many as 70 Women Congress workers were taken into police custody on Saturday for protesting against Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman outside Hubballi Airport. The protest was headed by Karnataka Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee (KPMCC) secretary Deepa Gouri. The Mahila Congress wing of Karnataka was protesting over the amount of flood relief funds disbursed by the Central Government for Karnataka.
The protestors were seen raising slogans and holding placards against the Union Finance Minister as they protested outside the airport. The protestors alleged the Central Government for not distributing sufficient funds for the flood-affected victims of the state.

Rs. 1,200 crore for flood relief work
The Centre has announced releasing Rs 1,200 crore for flood relief works in Karnataka on Friday. State Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has also thanked the Central Government for providing financial assistance. Karnataka Chief Minister also expressed his gratitude for the support provided to the State. He tweeted from his official Twitter handle and informed about the Central Government's financial assistance.

Many Indian states including Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, and Bihar have seen devastating floods in the past few weeks due to heavy rainfall. In Karnataka, the death toll has reached 31. A total of 3.14 lakh people have been evacuated, of whom 2.18 lakh are staying in 924 relief camps, official sources said. Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had also announced Rs. 5 lakh compensation to the families of the people who had lost their lives in the floods. Twenty National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) teams, 10 Army teams, five Navy teams, and two State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams were deployed to carry out the rescue operation in the floods affected Karnataka.
