A day after Centre sanctioned Rs 1,200 crore as initial relief for flood-ravd Karnataka, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Saturday said he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seek more funds. "About Rs 35,000 crore is our rough estimate. We are yet to kw actual amount. Our state has suffered more losses than any or state due to floods this time. I will meet Prime Minister and seek more funds to be released from centre. As an immediate measure in first st Rs 1,200 crore has been released by central government," Yediyurappa said. Speaking to reporters in Alamatti, Yediyurappa expressed hope that more funds would be released at earliest.

Chief Minister said re was large-scale crop dam and ded that he would seek central government's cooperation as to what extent y could provide assistance. In next budget, state government would also make provision for more funds for purpose and try to give assistance to maximum extent, he said. Yediyurappa said government would fulfill its commitment of providing Rs five lakh each for damd houses for reconstruction. Amid intense criticism over delay in release of central funds for flood relief, centre on Friday h anunced release of Rs 1,200 crore in vance from National Disaster Response Fund to Karnataka. t satisfied with allocation, state Congress termed it as a 'humiliation' to people of state.

Congress Legislature Party leer Siddaramaiah said "Rs 1,200 crore is t sufficient. We h asked Rs 5,000 crore as interim relief." Speaking to reporters, he said state should put pressure on central government to get more relief amount and till n, spend from its coffers. Ar senior Congress leer R V Deshpande said state government should work more effectively and urged Centre to release Rs 5,000 crore "immediately" for relief work, as Rs 1,200 crore was t sufficient.

As many as 103 taluks in 22 districts were affected due to floods in August, in which over 80 people were killed. Around seven lakh people were shifted to safe areas and thousands of houses were damd. Karnataka has sent a flood dam estimate of Rs 35,160.81 crore to union government, reducing it by Rs 3,290 crore after Centre objected to inclusion of private buildings that were affected. Meanwhile, Revenue Minister R Ashoka told reporters here that as per NDRF guidelines, state has to get Rs 3,891.80 crore, out of which Rs 1,200 crore was released, which was welcome. " guidelines were t prepared by Narendra Modi government, but by previous UPA government..... We request that remaining amount also be released at earliest," he said. Clarifying that centre h t rejected state's flood report, he said y h just sought some clarification on it. Ashoka's statement came amid media reports that Centre h sent back state government's report on flood and rain-related dams in Karnataka.
