SC dismisses anticipatory bail to P Chidambaram in INX Media case
While the former Finance Minister received bail in the Aircel Maxis case, the Supreme Court on Thursday denied to grant him pre-arrest bail in the INX Media money laundering case lodged by the Enforcement Directorate. The top court dismissed P Chidambaram's plea challenging the Delhi High Court verdict denying him anticipatory bail in the case. An SC bench of Justices R Banumathi and A S Bopanna said that P Chidambaram's case is not fit to grant anticipatory bail. Meanwhile, the apex court, however, said Chidambaram can approach the court concerned for grant of regular bail in the case. The top court maintained that protection from arrest to Chidambaram at this point will only hamper the investigation of the Enforcement Directorate.
