Karti Chidambaram to not get his ₹10 crore deposit says Supreme Court
The SC judge-bench refused to refund the deposit of ₹10 crore that Karti Chidambaram paid to the apex court for traveling abroad in May, for three more months

Supreme Court judge-bench led by Justice Deepak Gupta has refused to refund security deposit of Rs. 10 crores that Karti Chidambaram paid to apex court for traveling abro in May and June. bench said that this amount will continue to remain with apex court for ar three months. Karti Chidambaram has been facing various probes in Aircel-Maxis and INX Media cases which is reason why he h to place a deposit with apex court’s registry before leaving for his trip abro. Supreme Court h dismissed his plea seeking return of Rs 10 crore in May as well.
Karti’s plea on a rejection spree
son of former Union Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram, Karti, appealed Supreme Court to return security deposit after he was back from his foreign trips in May. This came after a bench heed by CJI h allowed Karti to travel to United Kingdom, US, France, Germany, and Spain in months of May and June in 2019. Karti claimed that he h taken money on loan and has been paying interest on it since n. In a similar incident earlier, apex court h also granted Karti permission to travel abro after depositing Rs 10 crore with secretary-general of Supreme Court, in January. tably, Karti was t returned his money during earlier trip eir.

Enforcement Directorate’s Stand
Supreme Court, on Enforcement Directorate's (ED) request, h earlier asked Karti to file an undertaking stating that he will t flee country and that he will return to India after his trip. It also mentioned that Karti will have to cooperate with investigation, and warned that y would "come down heavily" on him in case of t fulfilling set rules. ED h also opposed Karti's plea seeking permission to travel abro and alleged that he has been evasive, n-cooperative and caused a delay in completing investigations. y said that Karti was out of India for 51 days in last six months. ED also claimed that Karti has been "blatantly misusing" liberty granted by court to extend duration of investigation in cases.
