Kashmir: 8000 students have used internet services in the last 3 weeks

8,000 students in Srinagar have gained access to internet facility in the last three weeks, Jammu and Kashmir Directorate of Information said on Friday, September 27. Internet facilities have been made available at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) by the Srinagar administration. The facility has been made available for students to register for various examinations. The service for students was provided so that they could register for various examinations such as GATE, JEE Mains, CSIR NET and NEET.

Internet facilities made available for students

Internet facility was also used by students for submitting admission forms, making applications for scholarships, knowing their results and downloading admit cards at national and international institutions at the local and national levels, the directorate said.
It is notable that six terminals with operators have been set at the TRC as part of this facility. Internet facilities have been made available at the National Informatics Centre at Divisional Commissioner office in Srinagar. The E-tendering facility has also been made available for contractors, where some 400 users have availed of it so far in the current month.

The internet facilities are available for users from 8 am to 9 pm at TRC Srinagar and from 10 am to 7 pm at NIC at DC Office Srinagar. Concerned authorities have been directed by Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary to ensure full facilitation of requirements of all students and aspirants approaching them for availing of internet facilities. Srinagar was the first district where internet and phone services were made available to citizens after the revocation of Article 370.

NSA Visits J&K

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval visited the Kashmir Valley on September 25, to review the internal security situation and decide on the future course of action for smooth implementation of government schemes after the withdrawal of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. In a recent development in the valley, internet kiosks have been set up for the students, in parts of the Kupwara district.
