Kerala minister directs Panchayats to take up repair work in schools
Days after a student died of snakebite in classroom, Kerala govt has directed Panchayats to complete pending repair work in all schools in their jurisdiction.

Days after a fifth standard student died of snakebite inside classroom of a government school in Wayan, Kerala government has directed all Panchayats in state to complete pending repair work in all schools in ir jurisdiction. In a late-night order issued on Saturday, Minister for Local Self Government A C Moideen has me it clear re will t be any short of funds for repair work.

A senior official in ministry told PTI panchayats can use its own funds or plan fund for urgent repair work. " minister has also said that panchayats can seek help of Kudumbashree and daily w labourers under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act," official said. minister has also directed to construct bathrooms in schools which didn't have one.

decision to repair schools came amid continuing protests against authorities of state-run vocational higher secondary school at Kalpetta in this high-range district who h failed to ensure Shehala Sherin, who was bitten by a snake inside her classroom, was rushed to hospital on time. 10-year old girl died after being bitten by a snake inside her classroom on vember 20.
