A kidney racket has been exposed in Guntur after an organ trade gang didn’t pay the full amount after harvesting the kidney of a poor autorickshaw driver. The man was promised before the operation that he would get Rs. 30 lakh for the kidney, but he was only paid Rs. 1.1 lakh. The gang approached him in November of last year.

The man was identified as G Madhu Babu, and he said his father died by suicide due to financial problems when he was young. And because of low earnings, he went into a lot of debt from the loan apps and ended up thinking of selling one of his kidneys to pay off the debts and give his family a better future.

He said he met one man and spoke to him about selling a kidney and earning money, and he told Madhu about a website. He then searched it on Facebook and learned that they require a kidney with O+ and B+ blood groups, with an age group ranging between 31 and 33 years. Madhu replied to it and got a call from Bhasha from Vijayawada, who had already donated once, and told him that they would pay Rs. 30 lakh.

Madhu also said that, after reaching Vijayawada, he met another person, Venkat, who was the mediator for the patient. After doing all the tests cross-matched with the patient, he was asked to change his address to the patient's address; otherwise, he wouldn’t be able to donate it. He made all the proofs and videos and donated the kidney on June 15, 2024, and after that, he did not get any money.

The Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Anitha Vangalapud, reacted to this matter and posted on X. She wrote, “Urgent action should be taken against the Vijayawada kidney racket:

The kidney racket that came to light with the complaint of Vijayawada kidney victims Madhubabu.

In response to this matter, Mrs. Anita Wangalapudi, the Home Secretary, spoke to Guntur SP

@police_guntur, Krishna District SP @sp_kri, and Krishna District Collector @krishnadgoap and said that no one involved in this kidney racket should be spared and strict action should be taken against them and the victims Madhubabu should be brought to justice.”

Moreover, he said that the family asked him to donate the left kidney, but they took his right kidney, which he found out after the operation. All of these tests and surgeries happened at the Vijay Super Speciality Hospital in Vijayawada in June. And from November 2023 to June this year, he got only 1.1 lakh rupees as expenses.

After that, he knew he was cheated. He went to the police and requested to arrest the gang, and he said the gang has cheated more than six people.
