Who is Mira Murati? CTO of ChatGPT's Creator OpenAI Who Has Quit After 6 Years

San Francisco: Mira Murati has been one of the prominent figures in the field of artificial intelligence, who recently resigned from the post of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at OpenAI, the organization behind technologies like ChatGPT and DALL-E.

Born in Albania in 1988, she has a background in mechanical engineering and has worked with companies like Tesla and Leap Motion before joining OpenAI in 2018.

Murati has played a significant role in the development of advanced AI models and tools, and she is known for her advocacy for the responsible and ethical use of AI technologies. She briefly served as the interim CEO of OpenAI, during the time when the company was facing a little crisis, in late 2023. 

Muratiti announced her resignation in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating her desire to create the time and space to do her own exploration.  

In her message, Murati expressed gratitude towards OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and co-founder Greg Brockman, reflecting on their collaborative success in pushing the boundaries of AI. “I have made the difficult decision to leave OpenAI,” she stated.
