Kolkata: The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) on Sunday in a letter to Union Minister JP Nadda announced a nationwide halt of elective services in hospitals from Monday, August 12 following the murder of the trainee doctor in Kolkata.

The letter highlights five crucial demands of the organisation- Expeditious acceptance of residents' demands; no police brutality; swift justice for the deceased; security protocols for health workers, and formation of an expert committee.

Earlier, the organisation on Saturday sent a letter demanding strict action in the murder of the postgraduate trainee doctor.

The body of the victim was found inside the seminar hall of the RG Kar hospital in north Kolkata on Friday. The preliminary autopsy report confirmed the sexual abuse before the doctor was killed, as per media reports.

Following the spine-chilling incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the incident "unfortunate."

"I have directed the case to be taken to a fast-track court. If needed, the accused will be hanged. But they should be given the strictest punishment."

What Does Initial Autopsy Reports Reveal?

The autopsy in the case was carried out last week, stating that the victim's neck was broken, while many of her body parts including her private parts were bleeding. She also sustained serious injuries.

The initial autopsy report read, "There was bleeding from both her eyes and mouth, injuries over the face and nail. The victim was also bleeding from her private parts. She also has injuries in her belly, left leg… neck, in her right hand, ring finger and… lips.
