The Sc on Thursday during the proceedings in the Kolkata rape and murder case highlighted that the postmortem precedes the registration of the unnatural death.

Kolkata: Supreme Court continues to grill Mamata Banerjee's government over timeline of postmortem and registration of crime as an unnatural death (UD) in Kolkata rape and murder case.
Bench led by CJI DY Chandrchud observed, 'If it's not a case of unnatural death, n why was it taken for postmortem.'

When CJI asked when postmortem was done, Senior vocate Sibal stated that it started at 18: 10 pm and and ended at 19:10.
However, top court furr noticed that case of UD (unnatural death case) was registered at 23:30 pm.

UD case was registered at Thala police station at 23:30 hour and FIR was registered at 23:40 hour.
"It's very surprising postmortem precedes registration of UD. If this is fact n re is something dangerous," bench observed.

This comes as CJI DY Chandrachud debunked reports of finding semen inside body of victim's doctor. After one of counsel mentioned reports related to post-mortem over some grams of semen, CJI asked m not to refer to social media to make submissions in court. He said, "Don't re what is re on social media."
After reviewing CBI findings of ongoing probe in Kolkata trainee Doctor rape and murder, Supreme Court Judge, Justice Priwala expressed extreme shock. While hearing case in top court on Thursday, Justice J.B Priwala said, "I have never seen such a case in 30 years."

Justice slammed Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government and Kolkata police regarding timings of post-mortem and recording unnatural deaths.
"I have never encountered such a procedure in my entire career as a lawyer or judge," he said.
