No Rally, No Protest: Kolkata Police Imposes Sec 163 Around RG Kar Hospital
Section 163 of the BNSS allows a government to issue order in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger.
Kolkata: No rallies or processions will be allowed around RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata for the next 15 days as the Mamata Banerjee government on Friday imposed Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
Section 163 of the BNSS allows a government to issue order in urgent cases of nuisance or apprehended danger.
Protests in Kolkata have been continuing ever since a trainee doctor was raped and murdered at the state-run RG Kar Hospital. Her body was found on August 9.
Students, medics and medical professionals, politicians and common people together have upped the ante against the Mamata Banerjee government, seeking justice for the victim.
There have been accusations against Mamata government that her administration including the hospital management and police tried to cover up the crime, destroying the evidence and giving it a suicide angle, before the case was transferred to the CBI.
The development has come a few days after Kolkata police used brut force against students protesting against the TMC government during their ‘Nabanna Abhijan’ march, demanding the resignation of Mamata Banerjee.
CBI conducts polygraph test of RG Kar's guards
The CBI on Thursday conducted polygraph tests on two private guards employed at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
The guards were produced before a Kolkata court on Thursday for getting their consent for the tests and after getting the court's nod, the tests were concluded by the evening, they said.
The total number of individuals put through polygraph tests in the case is now 10, including arrested accused Sanjay Roy, former principal of the medical college Sandip Ghosh, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Kolkata Police Anup Dutta, four doctors who were on duty with the victim on the fateful night, and a civic volunteer of the Kolkata Police, to get further leads about the crime.
