Kolkata Police Bans Gathering of Over 5 People for 2 Months Amid Abhaya Rape and Murder Case
Amid the ongoing RG Kar Row, Kolkata Police has banned gathering of over five people for a period of two months which includes the Durga Puja season.
Kolkata: It has almost been two months since the horrific Abhaya Rape and Murder case and while doctors in Kolkata have partially resumed their services, their protests still continue. In a latest update, Kolkata Police has announced a ban on gathering of more than five people in the city, for the next two months.
Kolkata Police Bans Gatherings for 2 Months
Kolkata police has issued a notification banning gatherings; no gatherings will be allowed for the next two months amid the ongoing RG Kar row following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor during her night shift.
This strange order by the Kolkata Police comes at the time of the Durga Puja season. The ban on the gathering of more than 5 people in different areas will remain in place from from 25th September to 23rd November.
Doctors Move HC, Demand Dismissal of Notification
CPM and the Doctors' Forum has filed a case in the Calcutta High Court demanding dismissal of the notification. The hearing in the case will take placetoday.
Kolkata's new Police Commissioner Manoj Verma has issued a notification.
In that notification, in Kolkata and South 24 Parganas Thana area, no more than five people should gather in these two months from September 25 to November 23.
