Kolkata: As tensions soared in Kolkata during the Nabanna March by students' organisation with police lathi-charge and water cannons to disperse demonstrators, a video came to light where a man can be seen waving the Indian flag against the brutality of Bengal police and oppression of Mamata Banerjee.
The video was shared by Kolkata BJP leader Amit Malviya saying that the man, waving the national flag is "the ultimate symbol of defiance against an oppressive Mamata Banerjee regime."
"The man, waving a national flag, on the iconic Howrah bridge, amidst blazing water cannon, is the ultimate symbol of defiance against an oppressive Mamata Banerjee regime…" the post read.
Following the massive clash, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari alleged that police resorted to "brutal repression" on peaceful participants of the 'Nabanna Abhijan' rally and warned to stall West Bengal if the "brutalities" by state administration was not stopped.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said, "Police are using water cannon on peaceful protestors at Santragachi, burst tear gas shells on the students at Howrah Bridge, lathicharged them at College Street. Please stop these brutalities immediately."
"If the police repression is not stopped immediately, we (BJP) will stall West Bengal tomorrow." "An alarming situation has been created by this administration. Scores of protestors have been injured. If the commissioner of police Vineet Goyal and the DGP don't stop such brutalities, we will not sit idle. I am going to Howrah station en route to Belur Math as I don't want to break law. We are not joining the Chhatra Samaj movement as they had asked us not to come to the forefront but we are with them," he added.
