Kolkata: Outrage has surged across the country following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata leading to massive protests and strikes amid the ongoing probe by the central bureau of investigation ( CBI) in the case.  

 BJP held a 12-hour Bengal Bandh on Wednesday, which was called to protest against police action during the 'Nabanna Abhijan' rally to seek justice for RG Kar rape and murder victim in the state capital.

  • CBI Quizzes Sandip Ghosh for 13th consecutive Day

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday continued to question Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, in connection with its probe into the alleged rape and murder of a medic.  Ghosh appeared for questioning before the central agency for the 13th consecutive day. The former principal of the state-run hospital, where the body of the trainee doctor was recovered on August 9, has already been questioned by the CBI for over 130 hours.

  • Kolkata Witnesses Massive Protests and Rallies

Kolkata is set to witness a series of rallies and demonstrations on Thursday to protest against the alleged rape and murder of a doctor with political parties and several civil society organisations planning to hit the streets during the day.  

Despite attempts by police to "stop BJP's movements", the party would go ahead with its protest programme in Esplanade area in central Kolkata on Thursday, Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said.  

 

All About Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case

On August 9, the body of the 31-year-old medic was discovered in a semi-naked state in the seminar hall of the hospital.

Autopsy reports reveal that the victim was sexually assaulted and then murdered. Her neck was broken, and she suffered severe injuries, with multiple body parts, including her private areas, bleeding.

Sanjoy Roy, a civic worker, has been arrested in the crime. Roy has confessed to the crime but reportedly shows no remorse, according to local media.

In response to the widespread outrage, the Calcutta High Court transferred the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on August 13, amid a nationwide call for justice.
