Kolkata Rape-Murder: Court Remands RG Kar Ex-Principal Sandip Ghosh, Cop to CBI Custody Till Sept 17

Kolkata: A Kolkata's Sealdah court has ordered CBI custody (PC) till September 17 for Tala Police Station incharge Abhijit Mondal and former RG Kar Medical College principal Dr. Sandip Ghosh in connection with the RG Kar rape and murder case. Both officials will remain in CBI custody until September 17, as per the court's ruling.

What Led To The Arrest?

The two were arrested following allegations of their involvement in the investigation into the rape and murder case at RG Kar Medical College. The CBI has taken charge of the case, seeking to probe the alleged mishandling of evidence and negligence by the accused officials.

The court's decision came after a preliminary investigation suggested possible foul play in the handling of the case, leading to further scrutiny of the roles of  Tala Police Station incharge Abhijit Mondal and former principal Sandip Ghosh.

Rallies Demanding Justice For RG Kar Doctor Rock Kolkata

Rallies and protests were held across Kolkata on Sunday, demanding justice for a doctor from RG Kar Hospital who was raped and murdered last month.

In south Kolkata, retired Army officers, who once studied at Purulia Sainik School, marched from Jadavpur 8B Bus Stand to Golpark, carrying placards despite the rain.

Former students of Calcutta Girls' High School held a rally in Wellington, in the central part of the city, while hundreds of nurses gathered in Salt Lake's Karunamoyee, calling for better safety at work.

The doctor, a post-graduate trainee, was raped and murdered while on duty, sparking outrage across the country.
