New Delhi:  Amid heightened scrutiny following his gang's claim of assassinating Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail in Ahmedabad, has been offered a chance to contest the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

The Uttar Bhartiya Vikas Sena (UBVS) extended the offer through a letter sent to Bishnoi, who hails from Punjab .

The letter compared Bishnoi's spirit to that of Indian freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh. "We are proud that you are a North Indian born in the state of Punjab . We see the spirit of Shaheed Bhagat Singh in you," the letter stated.

UBVS highlighted the grievances faced by North Indians in Maharashtra , particularly those from OBC, SC, and ST communities. The letter, further, accused the state of depriving these communities of reservation benefits due to their North Indian ancestry, even if they were born and raised in Maharashtra .

The party’s proposal was clear: “We propose that you contest the Maharashtra Assembly elections, and the party workers and office bearers will ensure that you win the election with a remarkable performance and uplift your community."

Speaking to Republic TV, Sunil Shukla, national president of the Uttar Bhartiya Vikas Sena, confirmed the offer. "We see a reflection of Bhagat Singh in him," Shukla said, reiterating the party’s belief in Bishnoi’s potential to represent their cause in the political arena.
