Leopard Killed During Rescue Operation in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district

The leopard entered the home of resident Ramkumar in Rasulpur village at 8 AM on Thursday, causing panic among the six family members present.

Sambhal: In an operation to safeguard residents of Rasulpur village in Uttar Presh's Sambhal district, a leopard was neutralised by police officials as forest department arrived late without necessary tranquiliser. 

leopard entered home of resident Ramkumar in Rasulpur village at 8 AM on Thursday, causing panic among six family members present. Fleeing for ir lives, some family members ran outside, while women sought refuge in kitchen. Villagers armed with rods gared outside house to protect family. Despite calls to forest and police officials, forest team arrived late.

Police officials from Hayat Nagar police station, led by CO Sambhal Sar Anuj Chaudhary, reached scene and attempted to apprehend leopard. During operation, leopard attacked CO Anuj Chaudhary's foot. situation became more challenging when forest officials arrived without a tranquiliser at 11 AM.

In a joint effort, police team turned cot under which leopard was hiding, with several officers standing on top of animal to neutralise it. After hours of operation, leopard fell unconscious and was taken by forest officials. Unfortunately, leopard died due to force used by police team. CO Anuj Chaudhary clarified that leopard's death was not caused by police pressure but was a result of unconscious state during operation.

CO Sambhal Sar said, “ police team reached spot within 20 minutes after call. Fifteen police officials were part of operation to neutralise leopard. situation in village was chaotic, with locals wanting to kill leopard with rods. forest team lacked a tranquiliser, so we implemented plan B to get hold of leopard. We turned cot upside down, and although I was attacked by leopard, priority was to bring it under control. leopard fell unconscious, and forest team later brought an injection to complete neutralisation. Police h nothing to do with death of leopard. It was our duty to ensure safety of locals."
