PM Narendra Modi on Friday gifted a Nachiarkoil lamp and Thanjavur painting of dancing Saraswati to Chinese President Xi Jinping during his visit to India for the second informal summit. The leaders during the first day of the summit did a tour of the historical city of Mamallapuram. They also attended a cultural performance by Kalakshetra at Shore Temple in Mamallapuram. During the summit, PM Modi gifted Chinese President the items from crafted by artists from Tamil Nadu.

Gifts presented to President Xi Jinping

The items presented to President Xi Jinping hold a deep cultural essence and traditional value. The craftsmanship of Indians across the nation has held great value for centuries and several items were part of the trade with other kingdoms. The Nachiarkoil Branched Annam Lamp is an ornate item and depicts the culture and tradition of the region. Similarly, miniature paintings which have evolved into diverse forms pan-India is an important form of art in India, and President Jinping was gifted a Thanjavur painting of dancing Saraswati.

Day 1 of PM Modi-President Xi Summit

Prior to the cultural programme, Modi and Xi visited the heritage sites at Mallapuram which included the Panch rathas complex. The Day 1 of the Summit will end with both the leaders having a private dinner. The second summit follows the Wuhan summit which took place during the Doklam situation. During this summit, the leaders are expected to bilateral, regional, global issues. They will be discussing the India-China Development Partnership

129 MoUs signed between India and China

PM Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping before the 'second informal summit' in Tamil Nadu's
Mamallapuram on Friday signed over 100 MoUs. Ahead of the meeting,129 MOUs were signed between Indian and Chinese companies. Both countries have acknowledged that investments between them have grown incredibly in the past few decades. The 2nd summit follows the Wuhan Summit which took place in 2017.
